We at the Centrics Group know that job interviewing can be a nerve-racking process. Employers want to find the best candidate, and with a little bit of preparation, you can easily show them you are the best option.

No matter the industry in which you are interviewing, there are standard questions that are asked across the board. These questions (“Tell me about yourself” or “What is your greatest weakness?”) become the toughest ones to answer without preparation. Yet, it is almost guaranteed that you will be asked to answer them. So, why not take the time to practice your answers?

With the extreme competition in the job market today, it is important to be prepared if you want to land your dream job. IT hiring managers are looking for more than just brains. Businesses want engineers who can think quickly on their feet. It’s your responsibility as the IT job seeker to handle what questions the interviewer may ask, no matter how off-the-wall it may seem.

Imagine The Centrics Group sends you on an interview and the interviewer says, “You are doing great. I have just one more question for you.” You think to yourself, “This is perfect. I’m one question away from getting a job offer.” Then the interviewer asks, “If you were a brick in a wall, which brick would you be and why?” Your heart sinks into your stomach and panic sets in. You never expected this question, and you have no idea what to say.

Off-the-wall interview questions are becoming increasingly popular. These types of questions enable interviewers to assess your creativity and problem solving skills. Most of the questions they ask do not have a right or wrong answer, yet the interviewer does expect you to respond. “I do not know” does not show a potential employer your ability to think on your feet.

When asked these difficult, seemingly impossible-to-answer questions, consider utilizing the following tips:

As companies try to maintain or increase productivity while cutting budgets, the burden of the workload falls on the remaining staff.  As company’s layoff employees, IT directors, managers and engineers are forced to take on more projects. With the added stress, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and underpaid.

But instead of getting caught up in the stress, look at the glass half full. Leslie Stevens-Huffman writes on the Dice.com discussion board, “wait out the bad economy and reposition [your] careers while [the] company “repositions” its workforce.”

Stevens-Huffman’s advice calls for people who find themselves in this position to embrace the fact that you still have a job, take on the extra tasks, view them as a learning opportunity, and then utilize your new experience to get a promotion when the economy turns around.

The storm will be over soon enough. In the meantime, leverage this job market to make yourself more marketable in the future.

The IT job market has been moving in full swing during Q1, and we have seen increased hiring in all industries.  Another important trend to take notice of is that top candidates are once again receiving multiple offers at a time.  Additionally, salaries are moving back up with companies vying for the same candidates.  This makes it vital for companies to move swiftly and aggressively when trying to fill a position.

A lot of candidates were hesitant to make a move over the past 2 years and that is all changing now.  Although the overall unemployment rate remains high, the IT job market is catching fire!

The Centrics Group enjoyed a record Quarter during Jan-March of 2011.  Revenue was up 125% over Q1 of 2010.  We continue to see great movement in the market as we move into Q2.

It's tough out there on the job hunt--we all know it. But there does seem to be some good news from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Atlanta IT jobs are on back on the rise.

According to a January 2011 article, "Employment in information technology is on the upswing. Computer network, systems and database administrators will have excellent job prospects, with employment growth projected at 30 percent from 2008 to 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics."

These projections come on the heels of ThyssenKrupp's announcement to relocate it's North American IT hub to Atlanta, GA--a move that will require the company to hire about 110 IT jobs.
