Interview “Dos”

1. Dress to impress, you are saying this is me at my best.
2. Accept water if offered, it will show confidence and could be a tool to buy time on a difficult questions.
3. Be early, being on-time is late.
4. Be prepared; make sure you know what is on your resume.
5. Be enthusiastic and energetic throughout the interview.
6. Keep eye contact, it protrudes confidence and honesty.
7. Talk about specific accomplishments.
8. Bring references to provide if asked. Make sure these people will give positive references.
9. Have questions prepared to ask, about the company and specific role.
10. Be prepared to talk about why you left previous jobs, for a better opportunity is not a good answer.
11. Sell yourself, what can you bring to the company?
12. Be honest, let them know what you can and can’t do, as well as, how you will get up to speed quickly.

Interview “Don'ts”

1. Don’t even bring your cell phone into an interview.
2. Blames previous employers for anything.
3. Don’t talk too much, answer questions without rambling.
4. Don’t go into an interview without prior research on the company. Answering, “What do you know about the company?” is a lot more than reciting the first line on their website.
5. Don’t relax and slouch. Even if the interviewer seems like your best friend, he has a job and you are seeking one, stay professional at all times.
6. Don’t interrupt, wait until the interviewer is finished speaking.
7. Don’t give a weak handshake.
8. Don’t treat the receptionist rudely for any reason.
9. Don’t ask about salary, benefits or vacation time.
